Portal Administration

This section describes administrative tasks involved in maintaining the Portal, including profile and user management.

Update your profile

You can update your name, email, and password on the Profile page. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Click the User symbol at the top-right of the screen, and click Profile.

  2. Click the pencil symbol next to the name or email and update it.

    • To change your password, click Change Password. Type your old and new passwords in the appropriate fields, confirm your new password, and click Submit.

      You receive an email confirming that you have reset your password.

Delete your profile

Deleting your user profile removes your account and any associated personal information (name, email address, and so on). You will no longer be able to sign in to the OpenNMS Portal.

Follow these steps to delete your user profile:

  1. Click the User symbol at the top-right of the screen, and click Profile.

  2. In the Delete Account area, click Delete My Account.

  3. Confirm deletion.

    You are automatically signed out of any ongoing sessions.

Remove yourself from an organization

If you are a member of multiple organizations and want to remove yourself from one of them, follow these steps:

  1. Click the User symbol at the top-right of the screen, and click Profile.

  2. In the Membership area, click Remove Membership.

  3. Confirm removal from organization.

    You will be switched to another organization.

Manage users

This section describes administrative tasks associated with users (add users, resend activation emails, delete user accounts).

Add users

To add a user, follow these steps:

  1. Click the User symbol at the top-right of the screen, and click Users.

  2. Click Add New.

  3. (Optional) Type the user’s name.

  4. Type the user’s email address.

  5. Click Add New.

    An account activation email is automatically sent to the new user’s email address.

Resend account activation email

Links to activate an OpenNMS account expire after seven days. If a user does not activate their account within that timeframe, you can resend their activation email:

  1. Click the User symbol at the top-right of the screen, and click Users.

  2. Find the user whose activation email you want to send again and click the Resend Activation Email symbol beside their name.

    The email is sent immediately.

Unlock a locked user account

After 10 failed attempts to sign in, users are automatically locked out of their account and sent a lockout notification email. Follow these steps to unlock a user’s account:

  1. Click the User symbol at the top-right of the screen, and click Users.

  2. Find the user whose account has been locked and click the Unlock User symbol beside their name.

Delete a user

Deleting a user’s profile removes their account and any associated personal information (name, email address, and so on). A user who belongs to only one organization will no longer be able to sign in to the OpenNMS Portal. Users who belong to more than one organization are removed from the selected organization only.

Follow these steps to delete a user’s profile:

  1. Click the User symbol at the top-right of the screen, and click Users.

  2. Find the user whose profile you want to delete and click the Delete symbol beside their name.

  3. Confirm deletion.

    The user is automatically logged out of any ongoing sessions.

Update organization name

To change the name of your organization, send a request to sales@opennms.com.
