Sign In and Add Users

This section describes the lockout behavior in the Appliance Service, and how to add new users. See First-time sign in for more information on how to complete first-time login tasks.

Lockout behavior

After 10 failed attempts to sign in to the Appliance Service, you are automatically locked out of your account. When this happens, you also receive an email informing you that your account has been locked.

To unlock your account, talk to your OpenNMS Portal administrator, or contact OpenNMS support.

Add users

Appliance Service users can have different access privileges depending on the role you want to assign:

Role Description


Overall administrator. Creates users and manages subscriptions.


Non-administrative user of the Appliance Service.

Only Admin users can create new users. By default, new users have the User role.

Users with the User role cannot do the following:

  • Add other users.

  • Reboot the appliance.

  • Upgrade snaps.

  • View container or snap information.

  • View subscription details.

  • Access the API token and API documentation.

To add a user, follow these steps:

  1. Click the User Icon at the top-right of the screen, and click Users.

  2. Click Add New.

  3. Type the user’s name and email address, and click Add New.

    An account activation email is automatically sent to the new user’s email address.
